Definition of Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical engineering is mainly a branch of engineering that aims at combining the principles of mathematics and physics with the materials science for designing, analysing, manufacturing and maintaining the mechanical systems. It is considered to be one of the broadest and oldest branches of engineering. The field of mechanical engineering needs to be based on the understanding of the various core areas that include dynamics, thermodynamics, mechanics, structural analysis and materials science. Moreover, along with the core principles, mechanical engineers aim at using the tools like computer-aided design or CAD, product lifecycle management and computer-aided manufacturing or CAM for designing and analysing the manufacturing plants, industry machinery and equipment, cooling and heating system, aircraft, watercraft, medical devices and weapons. Mechanical engineering is mainly a branch of engineering that involves in the production, designing and operations of machinery. Mechanical engineering occurred as a major field during the Industrial Revolution that had taken place in Europe during the 18th century; however, the development of this field can be traced back to more than thousand years in different parts of the world.

Theory of Machines
Theory of machines can be defined as the branch of the engineering science that aims at dealing with study of the relative motion between different elements of the machine and forces that can act on the elements. The subject of Theory of Machines can be defined as the branch of engineering-science that aims at dealing with study of the relative motion between the different parts of a machine and the forces that are acting on them. The knowledge related to this subject is considered to be highly crucial for an engineer for designing different parts of the machine. Classification of theory of machines as following different branches that include, Kinematics which mainly deals with relative motion between different parts of machines. Dynamics mainly deals with forces and the effects during their acting upon machine parts in the motion. Kinetics deals with inertia forces that arise from combined impact of motion and mass of machine parts. Statics deals with the forces and the effects when the machine parts are kept at rest.
Machine Design
Machine design is considered to be a process related to selection of sizes, shapes, materials and arrangements of the mechanical elements so that a resultant machine can perform prescribed tasks. On the other hand, machine design is also a process of creating better and new machines and improvement of the existing machines. The three different types of machine orders include adaptive design, development or variant design and original design or new design. Adaptive design is considered to be a method within which parameters of the current design or the engineering device is a little modified for improving quality or for suiting a new trend in the market. For example, designing of the bicycle and mechanical watch. Development design also commences from current design for bringing new ideas, although the final product can vary in a significant or moderate manner from the current design. In the development design a design engineer aims at using the working principle of a particular machine on a different machine and bringing a completely new product that can possess good quality in size and working. When the designer aims at developing something that did not exist earlier, then the design can be termed as new design and only a few numbers of the designs fall into this particular category.
Fluid Mechanics
Fluid mechanics is considered to be a branch of physics that is mainly concerned with mechanics of the fluids and forces on them. This can thereby be divided into the fluid statics, study of the fluids at rest and the fluid dynamics and study of the impact of various forces on the fluid motion. Fluid mechanics has an extensive range of the applications within chemical and mechanical engineering in the biological systems and astrophysics. Fluid mechanics also governs the equations and the blood properties are also effective explained. For example, meteorologists are aiming to forecast the motion of fluid atmosphere spinning around planet so that they are able to forecast the weather. Physicists can study flow of the enormously high temperature gases through the magnetic fields in search for the adequate process of harnessing energy of the reactions related to nuclear fusion. Engineers are mainly interested in the fluid mechanics as the forces which are formed by the fluids and that can be used for the practical resolves.
Heat Transfer
Heat transfer is considered to be a mechanism that aims at conveying entropy and energy from a particular location to another and specific types of mechanisms are mainly referred to as the thermal radiation, convection and conduction. The four different types of heat transfer include conduction, convection, evaporative cooling and thermal radiation.

Importance Of mechanical engineering functions
Mechanical engineering is able to play a major role in manufacturing of the technologies that includes cars to refrigerators and airplanes. The process mainly helps the individuals for completing the daily activities with ease and it is able to bring the helpful technologies to the modern society. This is considered to be a major subdivision of engineering as without this, many technologies that are used by the individuals on a daily basis will not be available readily. Mechanical engineering can play a major role in ensuring that the different mechanical products are developed properly and they can also fulfil the needs and demands of the customers in different parts of the world and for enhancing their life quality as well.
