Writing a research paper effectively is both an art and science.
You need to select a topic of your choice.
The topic must be
selected from
those domain areas where you are the strongest and which has scope for research.
Treat your topic as a question to be answered.
Find relevant resources for the topic from the library catalog,
periodical indexes, bibliography, works of other researchers, journals,
books etc.
Group, sequence and document the information along with arranging
them according to their relevance.
Create a research outline
Consider the following questions while creating an outline
Why is the topic important?
What kind of background information is required to address the topic?
What is my purpose statement?
Write the introduction
The introduction should include the background, the focus or concern your paper
is going to resolve and the context in which it would be resolved.
Write the body
Build the body content arround the most crucial aspects of the topic, dealing
each part of the topic part in logical manner. The body content needs to be
integrated with the sources for the topic in your discussion.
Create an argument
In the body itself you need to create an argument for the topic and discuss it
with properly referenced points, facts, figures and data.
Write the conclusion.
After discussing the topic from multiple points and with respcet to multiple
reference results, you need to draw your own conclusion. Just after you have
stated the results or conclusions, you have to summarize your argument.
For starting a research paper, you have to first select a topic from an area
where you are technically and knowledge wise strong.
The approach while writing the topic should be to think “ What I am going to
demonstrate through the topic?” What would be my method for demonstrating and
relevant resources I would require in the process?
Drafting the title page
After stating the topic, the most important part is the title. The title
summarizes the main ideas of your topic and describes the purpose of your
research.
It also contains information about your mentors assisting you in the topic, your
name and the date when the research paper was written.
A conclusion is often the last paragraph of the research paper. It is like the
final chord of a song which makes the listener feel that the song is complete.
You proceed with conclusion in the following manner:
After discussing extensively on the topic with the help of supporting evidences
in the body, you state your own conclusion of the topic based on different
arguments and supporting theories. Restate your thesis in this part and
summarize your main evidence points. It is just like providing your final take
on the topic problem.
A research paper is a written academic document that is formed to prove with
supporting evidences, experiments, research and facts, a hypothesis. It is like
providing justification or validation for an area of the research paper topic,
that has yet not been validated, thereby confirming a hypothesis as an approved
scientific theory or fact.
According to Sierra College “A research paper is an essay in which you explain
what you have learned after exploring your topic in depth.” Only point that
needs to be added to this definition is “ only when your learning is ratified on
a scientific scale, it forms a research paper.”
To write an abstract for a research paper, complete your research paper first.
Then identify
The purpose of research.
The research problems analysed.
Methods for conducting the research, results and your own conclusion.
After identifying them summarize it in a 300 word paragraph in logical
manner.
This forms the abstract of the research paper.
Introduce your topic and the research problem
Provide the context of the problem along with background information
Inform your readers how you are going to do research for the topic
Provide your justification for doing the research
Provide your hypothesis that you need to validate
