A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings is considered to be subtitled as ‘A Tale for Children’ as this is a short story written by the Colombian essay writer as well as author named Gabriel García Márquez. This had been published in the year 1968 and it had the issue of the journal. She was a child who had disobeyed the wishes of her parents and went dancing against their wishes. Due to such, she had been transformed into a tarantula where she had the head of a woman. Therefore, the individuals in this story started forgetting about the Old Man as he did not talk or move as much and showed interest in her. Therefore, this was supposed to act as a contradiction for the character of the Old Man. Thus, the villagers in this story abandoned the Old Man as the Spider Woman was supposed to be attractive to the visitors and it was also a reliable character who had been against the struggle which was in opposition with the cold alien Old Man. The character of the Child was considered to be ill and he was a newborn baby of Pelayo and Elisanda. The Neighbor tried to tell them that the Old Man came to take the baby. However, they both are somewhat connected as they are ill at the same time and play together similarly.
Thus, the theme of interpreting the authority structures was considered to be made clear where the authority was interpreted through Father Gonzaga and the neighbor. In addition to this, there was a theme regarding the human condition where the old was considered to not be seen in an angelic manner as he possessed certain earth qualities. Therefore, the human condition made it important as the Spider Woman also had her tale which attracted her to the visitors out of pity. In the case of the Old Man, there are certain parallels between the child and the angel as these seem inter-connected. Therefore, the wings were well-thought-out to be the symbolism that represented the story well. Therefore, the necessity and the significance of the wings were completely in relation with the characteristics and features of the Old Man as the wings of the Old Man depict and demonstrate the act of logic of supplement.
