The learner will prepare a reflection, summarizing the learner’s understanding of the course materials prior to their engagement of any course materials. The learner is to write about their understanding of Indigenous History, Identity and Culture. This can include: nation building, trade, religion, culture or any information that the learner feels is pertinent. This is a graded learning activity, but grades will be assessed based on reliability and writing quality.
The learner is to write a minimum of one to a maximum of two pages of content, double-spaced. This assignment will be written in essay style. The assignment is to include a title page. This assignment does not require in-text sourcing or a bibliography, as the learner is to discuss their knowledge of the materials without referencing outside sources, at that time.
The objective is for the learner to explain what they know about the course content prior to engaging in the course materials. Using outside sources would be detrimental to this assignment as it will skew what your pre-course understandings actually are. Instructors want you to be honest about what you actually know, as it is apparent if you are using other sources.
