Background on IPC:

Interprofessional care (IPC) is a collaborative, team-based approach to providing optimal patient care. It benefits and empowers patients, and significantly improves health care provider satisfaction.

Studies have shown that IPC can lead to:

•increased access to healthcare

•improved outcomes for people with chronicdiseases

•less tension and conflict amongcaregivers

•better use of clinicalresources

•easier recruitment of caregivers

•lower rates of staffturnover

Presentation Purpose:

Conduct an interprofessional care presentation at your clinical setting to your preceptor and the health care professionals on that unit demonstrating the interprofessional core competencies focusing on but not limited to: team functioning, interprofessional communication, collaborative leadership acquired during the Pre- Graduate semester.

This presentation is subject to all policies of Centennial College and the Practical Nursing Program Student Handbook.

Support your presentation with evidence of research from your textbooks and nursing literature. This presentation should not be more than 20 minutes in length.

An unsatisfactory grade will be given for format errors, lack of appropriate references, and/or grammatical errors and late presentations.

Presentation Instructions

Use the Interprofessional Care Competencies to reflect on (attached on e.centennial):

1.A description of ONEparticular client/resident/patient to whom you provided care for this semester.

2.Clear examples as to how you were able to incorporate the interprofessional care competencies to this particular client/resident/patient.

The six competency domains are: (First 2 domains support the other 4 domains) 

1) interprofessional communication

2) patient/client/family /community-centred care

3) role clarification

4) team functioning

5) collaborative leadership

6) interprofessional conflict resolution

3.Discuss the strengths (from the client’s perspective) when providing inter professiona lcare to this particular client/resident/patient

4.Discuss the challenges (from the health care professional’s perspective) /resident/patient

5.From your perspective, what would be your recommendations on how nurses can incorporate the interprofessional care competencies in their nursing practice when providing care to their clients/residents/patients?

6.Present the marking rubric to your preceptor to serve as a tool for providing feedback on your presentation and submit the rubric along with your presentation to your assigned Faculty.
