Comparing Corporate Social Responsibility Standards: ASSHE Stars Standard and Other Standards

This is an independent project worth 10% of your mark.
In this assignment, students are expected to critically assess various Corporate Social Responsibility/Sustainability standardsfor use and reporting. Students will compare a standard with the ASSHE Stars Standard, the ASSHE Checklist and detailed ASSHE Current Credit PDFs (check out the hyperlinks highlighted in blue).

Many of the components of this comparison can be done in table format. The final report should be no more than 5 pages, 12 pt, double spaced. All citations in APA format must be included. All submissions must be in proper sentence form with correct grammar and spelling.

SECTION A: Standards Background and Purpose (5 marks)
 Identify which standard will be compared to the ASSHE Stars Standard
 Compare the following between the ASSHE Stars Standard and the standard chosen (information for both ASSHE

Stars and the Chosen Standard should be in the document).
1. General purpose of each of the standards(Guidance, Auditing and Verification, Other)
2. History of each standard.
3. Which industry or sector applies to each Standard?
4. General operating principles of each of the two standards (ASSHE Stars and the one you choose)

5. Membership qualifications for each (such as: who can apply each of these standards, if it is restricted, what is required to use it?)
6. Programs within the certifying body for each standard (such as: Which organization providesthe certification? How often are organizations certified? Is certification necessary? What does it cost?)
7. An example of an organization (such as: Business, or Institution, or Non-Governmental Organization) using each standard. Name the organization, their industry, and any information about their use of the standard (such as: why, how long, etc).

SECTION B: Standard Comparison (5 marks)
1. Compare and contrast at least 7 of the ASSHE Stars standard subcategories with the sub categories of the standard you have chosen. These are the ASSHE Stars Subcategories:

2. Match common subcategories (example: measuring greenhouse gases) and identify differences (example under Human Rights : ASSHE focuses on Diversity and Inclusion and Wellness, whereas the Global Compact might focus on Freedom of Association or Child Labour).

3. What differencesin general focus, purpose and application exist between the standards? (Identify at least 3)

4. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each standard? (Identify at least 3 for each).
