Topic: Sorting and Filtering Data using Excel 2016 (10 min)

• Sorting and filtering allows the user to find data more easily

• Sorting can be done on any field, and multiple fields

• Filtering allows the user to hide rows that do not match filter items

• Explain that a table in a spreadsheet can be used as a table database (1 min)

• Display this database table file and explain the setup (unique headings, contiguous columns and rows) (1 min)

• Demonstrate the sort ascending/descending features on text and numeric fields (2.5 min)

• Demonstrate a custom sort using 2 fields (department, name) (3 min)

• Demonstrate simple autofilter and filter on one field (2.5 min)

  • demonstrate other filter features such as top 10, above average

If presenting live (Face-to-Face), a paper copy of the Lesson Plan MUST be provided to the Professor at the beginning of the Demonstration. If presenting live using Zoom or video submission, the Lesson Plan must be uploaded to the Assignment dropbox on MyCanvas when the presentation is delivered.

  • Describe the scenario you will be using to demonstrate tasks

• Tasks (point form)
  • List the tasks you will perform

• Include sample data and point form list of steps you will follow
• Tasks (if time)
  • Lists the tasks you will perform if there is time

You will deliver a 10 minute demonstrate of one or more tasks in a software application, as a live demonstration performing these tasks in the application. A topic has been approved or assigned to you for this assignment. Your topic is the same as the User Training Tutorial Assignment and the CBT Video Assignment. Please check the Home or Announcements menu on MyCanvas or consult with your Professor if you are unsure of your topic.
