Selecting a Movie and a Moral Topic

Please read the instructions very carefully so that you can understand everything please essay(typed, double spaced, font size 12). The written assignment will be an essay about a moral topic in one of the movies discussed in our class. First, select one of the movies discussed in our class: The Dark Knight, Gone baby gone, V for Vendetta, or Ex Machina. Second: Which moral topic have you found in the movie? It might be the case that you can find various moral themes in a movie. You need to focus on only one of them. For example, you might think that in a movie there are ideas related to both Virtue Ethics and Utilitarianism. Your paper needs to focus on only one of them. The moral topic is related to the moral position of either the filmmaker or one of the characters in the movie. The moral position of the filmmaker or one of the characters are concepts/ideas/arguments expressed by the filmmaker or one of the characters in the movie. Third: Your paper is to discuss the moral topic (concepts/ ideas/ arguments by the filmmaker or one of the characters) in your selected movie. Format: In Introduction clearly discuss which movie and which moral topic in that movie you have selected. Then, you need to mention whose moral position you want to work on; the filmmaker or one of the characters in the movie. Also, you need to mention if you agree/disagree with the moral position of the filmmaker or the chosen character. This is your thesis. Example: “I intend to discuss moral philosophy in the movie, Gone baby gone. I intend to discuss Patrick Kenzie’s moral position. I disagree with his moral position.” The body of your paper has two parts. In the first part, you explain the moral position (concepts/ideas/arguments) of the filmmaker or the chosen character and how the movie discusses and visualizes the position (concepts/ ideas/arguments). You need to provide clear examples from scenes of the movie and explain how those scenes discuss and visualize the moral position (concepts/ideas/arguments). In the second part, you express your own idea. Do you agree with the moral position (concepts/ideas/arguments) discussed/visualized in the movie by the filmmaker or the chosen character of the movie? Why/ why not? Clearly mention your position and argue for it. To argue for your point, you need to employ moral concepts/ideas/arguments. You might find them in the content of our course or from any external sources. For example, in V for Vendetta you can find a specific moral position (filmmaker’s or V’s position) about the right to rebel against the unjust government by citizens. Do you agree/disagree with this idea? Why/why not? Another example from Gone baby gone: Do you agree with Patrick Kenzie’s moral position in Gone baby gone? Why/why not? 3) Conclusion which not only restates your view, but leaves the reader with something more, such a speculation on the broader implications of your view.
