SPS120 Strategic Problem Solving

You are using several virtual machines for various services on a small network. One morning when you arrive to the office, you notice that one of your services is down and when you go to check the virtual machine that is running it, you find that is has locked up and will not accept any input. You try restarting the virtual machine but it fails to reboot. Everyone on your network needs this service and will not be able to get any work done until it is restored.

Problem Solving

Use the problem solving method we have discussed in the problem solving lecture and tutorial to:

1. Define the problem (what, where, when, who)

2. Create an Ishikawa Diagram

a. At least 10 possible causes must be provided. They can be categorized as you see fit but

they must be logical to the problem you are solving.

b. Following the diagram, provide a 1-page (double-spaced) write up explaining your

rationale for the possible causes you have included

3. Create a Mind Map diagram

a. Mind map must include at least 20 “bubbles”
