Infographic Assignment on Child Maltreatment

For this assignment students will research a specific type of child maltreatment (ie. neglect, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, physical abuse, or exposure to adult family violence/intimate partner violence) and create an infographic to share with fellow course colleagues.  Through this assignment students will define key concepts related to abuse, neglect or exposure to violence and enhance their knowledge on risk factors and impacts associated with child maltreatment. A topic sign-up sheet is available in the week 1 folder.

Students are responsible for researching their type of child maltreatment using scholarly sources. To gather information students may use textbooks, reputable online resources (ie. government websites, professional Canadian association websites, or websites ending in .org or .edu) and/or journal databases through Seneca Libraries.  All of these sources of information are acceptable. Information must be cited in APA format directly on the infographic.

Students will include the following information in a creative and concise way on their infographic.

  • A clear definition of the type of maltreatment being researched with accurate examples.

  • Three relevant Canadian statistics or facts related to the specific type of child maltreatment from the last 5 to 7 years.

  • A concise and specific explanation of three factors that increase a child’s risk experiencing this type of abuse.

  • A brief description of three distinct and specific impacts this type of abuse has on children’s development and emotional wellbeing.
