Comprehensive Literature Review in Counselling

The priority is following APA style correctly and doing a complete review and critical analysis including ethics, reliability, validity, and confounds as we have been discussing...so no points will be deducted for being slightly over the page limit for any of those reasons. 

 

Instructions
1. For the final project, you are asked to complete a comprehensive literature review on your chosen topic. Guidelines on how to structure your paper are provided throughout the Comprehensive Literature Review Template and MACP APA formatting guide.

2. In the Yorkville library, select at least 12 journal articles related to counselling (preferably six quantitative and six qualitative).  For the comprehensive literature review, be sure that the research designs in the articles selected are both quantitative and qualitative. You MUST distinguish the design types in the discussion.

3. When completed, the literature review will be approximately 7 to 10 pages long, not counting title page, abstract, table of contents, or reference page(s). There are no penalties for going slightly over; however, the paper should be close to that limit.

4. Ensure the literature review:
a.includes sections and subsections identified in the template;
b.focuses on the topic that you have chosen (see Journal Article Reviews assignment);
c.includes a problem statement and research question(s) that specifically describes what would like to know about your chosen topic;
d.summarize the main points of the studies clearly, including assessment of reliability and validity;
e.includes a sufficient number of studies; includes specific recommendations for future research in both the quantitative and f.qualitative realms;

g. is well written, accurate, and concise; and demonstrates evidence of insight and synthesis of ideas from various parts of the course including ethical considerations.

Evaluation
The following rubric indicates those areas you should be focusing on in preparing your assignment, and how the professor will weigh these components relative to one another.

 

Criteria

1. Met Assignment Requirements (25%)
a. select quantitative and qualitative articles relevant to the topic being reviewed
b. originality and substance (not a mere summary of articles)

 

2. Writing Quality (25%)
a. material is organized in a manner that is logical and easy to follow
b. APA style applied appropriately

c. attention paid to grammar, spelling, etc.

 

3. Mastery of Material/Comprehensiveness (50%)
a. indicates understanding of quantitative research methodology factors, including major designs
b. indicates understanding of qualitative research methodology factors, including major designs

c. evidence of insight and synthesis of ideas from various parts of the course including ethical considerations in research
