A 75 -year -old lady that mobilises with her walking stick was admitted on elderly care ward due to shortness of breath , stomach pain , problem with spee ch, weight loss and chocking episode. Her ABCDE assessment and other related test result identified her with comorbidity diseases of stage 4 stomach and oesophageal cancer and a brain damage. As the patient gave consent to meet the consultant with her husband about her medical result and future care plan / consultants which will involv e palliative care home. This patient felt uncomfortable , overwhelming and became miserable. The patient tried to use her walking stick to hit anyone around her . The nurse in charge take the lead to move the patient from the four bedder bed to a single room explained to her the danger of hitting people with stick. Her complex care illness is a long -term illness where it requires continuous care and also involves multidisciplinary team. Is the nurse duty of care to follow the NMC 2018 to provide quality car e where the patient could require some additional time to comprehend and corporate with the new health situation? The multidisciplinary team did some assessment to replace her walking stick with safer walking frame.
