Fairfield School of Business (FSB) is a community-based learning provider located in the heart of Croydon. We are an independent, private higher education institution and we pride ourselves on offering a truly diverse and multicultural learning experience. In line with the growing demand of business orientated skills, FSB places a direct emphasis on providing vocational education for those with an entrepreneurial flair.

Student fees are paid via the Public Purse and specifically via the Student Loan Company where students need to apply for eligibility.

The college’s mission statement is:

The School’s mission is ‘to provide a supportive and inspiring student experience that is inclusive, seeks to reduce barriers to learning and equips students with the knowledge and skills they need to progress into further study or employment’.

Background to clients (person or persons with whom the students will have most contact)

HR Officer (Main Contact) who has been commissioned to deal with this particular project on behalf of the organisation.

Information to be made available to the students

FSB is a unique college in the UK in the segments it operates. In the last couple of years there have been numerous entrants into this market to the point that the demand for appropriately qualified staff is increased. This means that FSB is now recruiting from a decreasing pool of potential applicants, since applicants can find jobs more easily with other providers of education

The senior management of the organisation has decided to increase its product (course) portfolio and introduce in the next academic year professional specialist qualifications that are relevant in the accounting and financial management sector with particular focus on qualifications aiming at ACCA or CIMA.

Consequently, the College has requested the Human Resource department to identify effective ways of recruiting suitably qualified academic staff to deliver these specialist professional qualifications by developing a framework that includes appropriate hygiene and motivating factors in place in the context of the following requirements.

Known project objectives at this point in time

·         Promote and position FSB as a credible employer in the Higher Education sector;

·         Promote and position FSB as a new credible employer in the Higher Education sector with emphasis on delivering accounting and financial management;

·         Identify ways for recruiting relevant academic staff in the areas of accounting and financial management.

Project tasks

(subject to change)

The requirement of this brief is to receive a proposal as a result of research and relevant data collection to advise the HR management of the college on:

·         The merits of recruiting and retaining professionally qualified personnel to deliver selected specialist courses

·         How to attract talented individuals into Higher Education with the right knowledge and skills.

·         How to provide a working environment that competitors do not offer to achieve relative competitive advantage over competition.
