Online Examination Guidelines and Instructions for Students

Task

Students will not be allowed access to communication tools within Blackboard during the assessment. Students are reminded that they should not engage in any form of offline/ external communication with their classmates or anyone during the assessment. Each student is expected to work individually on this assessment. Any unauthorized communication, plagiarism or collusion may be treated as an academic misconduct and the relevant penalties will be
imposed.

a. Please take note of the date and time of the examination of each module.

b. Please ensure that you have the necessary equipment, accessories, software and stationery required for the online examination e.g. laptop or computer with connection to the Internet, a mouse for navigation, a calculator, PDF conversion software etc.

c. Please ensure that you have stable Internet connection during the examination.

d. Students are reminded that for timed examination, the timer will continue to count down even if you  are not at your computer.

e. Please ensure that you have switched off all communication devices such as mobile phones, tablets etc. All applications with communication functions on your computer should also be switched off before starting the examination.

a. Click on the Blackboard Examination link at the time and date stated and log in using your Blackboard user ID and password. Should you face technical difficulties doing so, please send an e-mail to Exam Centre immediately. You may refer to the Module Exam Instructions (not applicable to CEP and CAE) for the e-mail address contact details.

b. Unauthorised communication: Students must not engage in any form of offline/ external communication with their classmates or anyone during the course of the online examination.

c. Plagiarism students must not plagiarize - copying and presenting someone’s work and treat them as yours. Plagiarism can take place when you take materials from books, articles, lecture notes either in print or from the Internet, and treat as your own. You can avoid plagiarism by paraphrasing from your sources and adding your own ideas.

d. Unauthorized communication, plagiarism or collusion (sharing of answers by working together) is an academic misconduct and penalties will be imposed.

e. Please make sure that you complete the examination and submit your answers within the stipulated time frame.

f. For submissions to Turnitin/ submission links, please ensure that you are using the correct file format stated in the Examination Instructions for your answers. You will need to make sure that you leave enough time for the PDF conversion stage (if applicable). No extra time will be provided for transfer of answers if the wrong file format is used.

g. For submissions to Turnitin/ submission links, students are to answer only the number of questions, in any sequence, as indicated in the examination. If students answer more questions than are prescribed, and fail to provide a clear indication of which answers should be discarded by the marker (e.g. by crossing them out), then the marker will mark answers in the order in which they appear in the answer script and, after the prescribed number is reached, will discard the rest.

h. Students must complete the uploading and submission of your answers to Turnitin/ submission links by the end time of the examination stated in the Examination Instructions. Uploading time has been accounted for in your online examination duration, therefore please make sure that you have given yourself enough time allowance to upload and submit your answers for the examination. Late submissions will be marked as “Absent”.

a. Click the “Back” button on your web browser to see if you can return to the examination page. If this fails, try to reconnect to the Internet and log back into Blackboard. [Note that Blackboard is able to save your answers. If you have to log back in to complete the examinations, your prior answers may remain from the last system-save]

b. If this does not work, please send screengrabs of Internet inaccessibility with the date and time clearly stated, or other relevant supporting documents through e-mail to Exam Centre as soon as possible.
