Analyse the following factors and include only the most appropriate/significant:
The company’s general business environment – Industry environment
Structure and nature of the industry; industry value chain
Drivers of change in the industry
Attractiveness of the industry – Competitors
Products/services, market overlaps; positioning; strategic group (or key rivals) – The internal organisation
Resources, capabilities and competencies (to the extent possible)
- Identifying any that are the basis of competitive advantage
Financial performance
- Profitability, productivity, efficiency (identifying relevant trends)
Does the firm have an appealing value proposition?
Identify and evaluate the basis of competition. Identify the corporate-level strategy mix used by the company, possibly including one or many of the following:
Diversification; internationalisation; cooperative strategies; mergers and/or acquisitions.
The conclusion of the report should include:
- An assessment/judgement on the company’s strategic position
- Whether the company’s strategies fit its external environment and are consistent with its resources and capabilities.
