Leadership and Management of Project Teams: A Portfolio Analysis

Internal and external factors impacting project teams

You are required to submit a portfolio demonstrating your understanding of the critical complexities involved in the leadership and management of project teams and reflecting on your role as project manager.

The portfolio should be presented in a business report format with an appendix as follows:

You are required to produce a critical analysis of the internal and external factors that impact on

a)the functioning of project teams

b)the role and effectiveness of the project manager

Your analysis must be supported by relevant academic theory from your wider reading and research.

Using a recognised academic model of self-reflection, you are required to reflect upon  2 module workshops that you have engaged in and to analyse how each workshop and activities has enabled you to identify your strengths and development areas as a project manager.

You can write in the first-person tense (using ‘I’, ‘my’) for this section of the portfolio because this is a personal piece of writing

Conclusion to the portfolio bringing together your overall findings from your analysis and reflection. Approx.150 words

Here you may include any documentary evidence of additional activities or learning that you have engaged in to support your reflection in section two. This may include examples of some of the online questionnaires, examples of career development events you have attended. Not included in wordcount

The learning outcomes that are being assessed in this assignment are:

A critical analysis of the theoretical perspectives of the management and leadership of project teams, including team dynamics

An evaluation of the contextual factors (internal and external) that that impact on the functioning of project teams and the role of the project manager

A critical self-reflection of the project management leadership role

Your grade will depend on the extent to which you meet these learning outcomes in the way relevant for this assessment. Please see the grading rubric at the end of this assessment brief for further details of the criteria against which you will be assessed.

In accordance with the Assessment and Feedback Policy, as stated in section 4.40 where a submission exceeds the stipulated word limit by more than 10%, the submission will only be marked up to and including the additional 10%. Anything over this will not be included in the final grade for the assessment item. Abstracts, bibliographies, reference lists, appendices and footnotes are excluded from any word limit requirements.

In line with section 4.41 of the same Policy, where a submission is notably under the word limit, the full submission will be marked on the extent to which the learning objectives have been met.
