Task
Part A Assessment 1
Produce an informal report not exceeding 2000 words (excluding reference and appendices) which:
Evaluates and analyses the performance of a chosen company, comparing it with a selected range of competitor
(a) describe its operating context within its industrial sector.
(b) calculate at least two years’ key financial performance figures from its annual report.
(c) evaluate its performance against key competitors using database other information sources for comparative data
The report
An informal report style should be used, and the following areas should be addressed:
1 A brief description of the market in which the organisation operates including key features of differentiation, and a brief analysis of its operational activities.
2 A calculation from the annual reports of your company of appropriate financial ratios. The calculation of the ratios must be fully and clearly shown.
3 Compare your chosen company financial and operational performance in the context of selected competitors or its industrial sector. As a source of comparative data, ratios provided by finance databases could be used and any other additional information available to you.
Part B Assessment 2
Produce 2,500-word report examine Soweto Digi Ltd case study. Develop your own ideas and recommendations for the effective operation of the organisation. Students are required to write, and present, an individual essay evaluating the role of operational and financial management in the case organisation.
Students are required to employ a range of analytical techniques, communicate effectively and demonstrate both theoretical and practical understanding of the key issues addressed by the module.
Detailed requirements are as follow:
1. Critically discuss the role of the Management Accounting in the management process and identify the major differences between the management accounting and financial accounting. Employ appropriate techniques to analyse and explain how different models of costing could be used in operational management.
2. Employ capital investment appraisal techniques in selecting projects and critically discuss the techniques in making investment decisions.
3. Critically discuss the role of Business Plan and Budget in operational management of the case organisation. Recommend the areas of improvement prepare a new report to illustrate this using the information provided in the case study.
4. Critically discuss the usefulness Balanced Scorecard Approach and prepare an example of Balance Scorecard for this organisation.
