PowerPoint Presentation on Object-Orientated Software Development and Software Engineering
Answered

Learning outcomes assessed

Learning outcomes assessed

  1. Explain and use key programming constructs to create correct and efficient programs
  2. Critique and compare different software development approaches

In this assignment you will be given a research paper closely related to Object-Orientated Software Development or the wider field of Software Engineering.  You must create then a PowerPoint presentation of no more than 10 content slides. Each slide should have a voice-over recording of no more than 30 seconds in length explaining the slide. In this presentation you must:

Task 1: Summarise the given paper and explain its key contribution(s). Contributions will be dependent on your paper and may be findings or ideas or concepts or paradigms or methods or tools. We strongly recommend you use the techniques covered on the Critical Analysis module this semester when reading your given paper.

Task 2: Outline a plan of how you would integrate the contributions from your given paper into your CO4403 Coursework part 1 assignment solution and what impact this would have. You must use specific examples linked to your given scenario/UML diagram. For example, if your paper was on automated testing your plan may give specific examples of which classes and methods you would test, why you would test them, how you would test them, what impact that would have on your code and development process.

You may choose what to include on each slide, a suggested structure is using slides 1-5 to summarise the given paper, highlight its contribution, and provide some of your own critical consideration. Then use slides 6-10 to give examples of how insights from the paper can be applied in your given context. You may add additional introduction and conclusion slides but these will not be marked.

The content of each slide should be brief and include only bullet points and figures. If you are unsure about this instruction look at the slides from the CO4403 lectures: the slides rarely contain more than 6 bullet points, each bullet point has a short sentence, figures are used wherever possible.

If you feel that you are not able to meet the marking criteria within the constraints of this format you may add an additional 100 word maximum note to each slide.

For task 1 you must provide your own interpretation of the paper; you must not quote large sections from the given paper, and you must not attempt to pass text from the paper through language translation tools.

The research paper will be provided to you through Class Notebook on Teams, it is your responsibility to check that you can access this and report any issues to your lab tutor well in advance of the deadline. You must not share this document with or show it to any other students.

You must achieve a grade of 50% overall to pass this assignment. If the presentation file you submit does not work you will receive a mark of 0. Your mark will be comprised of two aspects:

Marking Criteria

Task 1 - Summary

  • To obtain 25% you must have produced a coherent summary which shows understanding of the key contribution of the given paper.
  • To obtain 30%, in addition to the above, your summary will clearly demonstrate that you have understood key issues within the paper.
  • To obtain 35%, in addition to the above, you will also raise points in your summary that show insight and consideration relevant to this module.
  • To obtain 40% and above, in addition to the above, you will have made reference to other relevant research papers (e.g. later or earlier work) in an appropriate way. Your presentation and slide design will be of a high standard.

Task 2 - Plan

  • To obtain 25% you must have produced a coherent plan derived from your given paper with at least one example that links to your given scenario/UML diagram.
  • To obtain 30%, in addition to the above, your plan will demonstrate clear understanding of your given paper and how its unique contributions can be applied.
  • To obtain 35%, in addition to the above, you will justify your plan in relation to object oriented development and reflect on the potential impact of your plan. You will give multiple examples that links to your given scenario/UML diagram.
  • To obtain 40% and above, in addition to the above, you will have made a detailed and considered plan considering advantages and disadvantages. Your presentation and slide design will be of a high standard.

Except where an extension of the hand-in deadline date has been approved, work that is handed in within 5 working days late will receive a maximum mark of 50%. Work handed in later than this will receive 0%.

The preparation for this assignment was provided in the lecture materials and associated activities in weeks 7-10 of semester 1.

Assessment Deadline Date and time: Midnight on Friday 15th January 2021.

Please note that this is the final time you can submit – not the time to submit!

Do not contact module tutors to request an ad-hoc extension, such requests will always be refused.

Your feedback and mark for this assessment will be provided within 15 working days after submission.

SUBMISSION DETAILS

You must submit a PowerPoint file include a voice over including both parts of the assignment. If you fail to submit all parts or submit them in a form which cannot be accessed by module tutors your will receive a mark of 0.
