- Start with an introduction sentence.
- Then develop the content on human development in your chosen life stage.
- Add a brief conclusion at the end of the poster.
- Throughout the poster you need to provide in-text references to suitable supportive literature.
Layout Slide Two – Your annotated bibliography
Slide 2 is for the annotated bibliography
- You need to present the full reference for each of the sources you used in your poster be those written or visual sources.
- You will need to provide an annotation for all written sources such as for books, journal, and websites. Commenting on how and why the written reference source was useful to develop your poster assignment. Include reference to 5 to 8 authoritative written sources including books, journals and websites. Provide 3 to 5 sentences on each reference source
- Whilst you need to add the full references for visual media charts, graphs, tables, pictures and images these do not require annotation within this assignment, these visually speak for themselves.
- It is recommended that in slide 2 you use font size 10 -12 to allow you space to write the annotated bibliography in sufficient depth.
Examples of prior work
- We will be reviewing good and poor examples in depth on Tuesday 16th Nov 2021
- These will go live a week before (w/c 8th Nov) so that you can bring your thoughts on what are their strengths and areas, they could be improved to the on-campus discussions
Getting started - How to plan your poster assignment
- Choose your title – review the materials on BB, revisit your notes, read the directed study text.
- Plan the content - identify your main message and key points. Think about how you are going to capture and hold the attention of your audience.
- Plan the visual content - think about whether the content works best as text or an image. Plan your design noting the point of entry and the logical flow of the information throughout the poster. How are you going to ensure your audience knows how to read your poster? Do they need to read horizontally or vertically? Consider how to signpost them through the work
- Create - create your poster, using PowerPoint
- Proof read the contents and edit as necessary. Ensure that your spellings, grammar and referencing are correct. Check the readability of your poster, get a trusted friend/peer to provide you with honest feedback on the clarity and impact of your poster.
- Remember: Academic Posters need to be formal (for this assignment your poster needs to be written in the 3rd person), structured (follow a logical order) and include citations (both in text and as a final reference list).
Over the next few weeks start to consider what life stage you would like to explore further

What to content to include in your poster
- You need to cover the biopsychosocial and environmental influences on human development exploring relevant theories and available research.
- You need to include the following considerations:
- Biological factors – how does our physical development progress and what enables or limits a person's ability to grow and mature
- Psychological factors – how does emotional and cognitive development progress, what supports or inhibits mental health, how does what we think and feel about ourselves and the world around us changes over time.
- Social factors – how do our roles and relationships affect how we grow and develop, what is the importance of culture and integration in the evolution of human potential.
- Contextual factors – these are the environmental influences that shape human potential, the spaces and places that enhance or impede people's health and wellbeing.
- Health challenges typically experienced by individuals in the life stage, you do not need to identify all health problems just those that are most common
