Project 1 Material Take-off

From the plans in Project 1, take off and extend the following quantities of materials/tasks:

1.    Bored excavation for 300mm diameter piers. (Hint: measure in lineal metres and refer to structural detail. To determine piers number, locate one at every corner/beam intersection, then space between these at 1800 max.)

2.    Bulk excavation to prepare site generally (but not the excavation for slab beams which is known as ‘detailed excavation’) Measure in m3 un-bulked. Allow to excavate 1m beyond the house walls for working space. Determine and state whether any excavated material will be required to be used as ‘fill’ and state the amount if fill needed.

3.    N25 concrete to the slab on ground (including piers, beams, patio slab and pad footings; but excluding piers as these are typically bored and pored immediately after bulk earthworks)

4.    SL72 reinforcing mesh to ground slabs. Measure the mesh twice:

a)    Nett measure in m2 – (when costed, the $ rate per m2 will include an amount for wastage)

b)    The number of sheets required to complete the slab. Note: reinforcing mesh is sold in 6.0m x 2.4m sheets. 2 bar overlaps are typically required resulting in an effective cover of 5.8m x 2.2m with 400mm lap.

5.    The lengths of SL12TM required to complete the construction of the slab on ground. Note: trench mesh comes in 6m lengths. Measure in meters.

6.    The structural steel in tonnes. Measure to 2 decimal places.

7.    The plasterboard required to complete the lining of first floor rooms excluding the wet areas. Measure walls only. Measure the plasterboard twice:

a)    Nett measure in m2. The rate per m2 will include a wastage factor.

b)    The number of sheets of plasterboard required to complete the lining of the rooms. Sheet sizes vary – use 1200mm wide sheets x standard lengths, with a horizontal layout.

8.    66 x 18mm finished DAR primed pine skirting to the first floor rooms. (Hint: measure the skirting considering lengths available to purchase.)

9.    Ceramic floor tiles to the following ground floor rooms:

       Family room

       Meals room

Kitchen – allow tile to go under the cupboards

       Foyer/stair area

(Hint: smaller tiles have a lower wastage factor than larger tiles. For this exercise allow 10% wastage on the nett floor area.)
