Lighting Design Light and Human Experience - Project 3

Task

PROJECT 3: Lighting Design Light and Human Experience In this second half of the course we have been exploring the world of light, good practices for introducing it into space and also how lighting can either positively support your design and the human experience, or hinder them. YOUR TASK Start with Project 2 (if you want)... In our Project 2 you selected a particular space with a specific programming. You also identified how you wanted the space to feel and how you would use colour to support this emotion or mood. We will take this a step further now and add in light! Write up Introduce your project and answer the following questions: What is the mood you had selected in the past project? What colour palette did you use? What type of Intensity, Colour and Texture of lighting will support the mood or concept of the design? What types of lighting fixtures can you use to achieve these types of texture? Visuals Based on the sector you selected, use one of the floor plans provided to you. (you may use your own as well) Research images of different lighting installations that you could use as inspiration for your space. Keep a collection of these as a "scrap book" or "research book" for submission. With your mood and design concept in mind, create a light map using the floor plan. Identify key areas first, how are you choreographing the space? Work through the 5 layers of light. Remember to include Natural light sources and where they would enter the space. Now red line your plan. Be more specific with layout requirements. Add notes to the plan about the light fixtures. Identify the types of light fixtures you will use in this space to achieve the overall mood. Source typical fixture you will use in your design and organize into an informal lighting chart for the project. An example of this can be provided. If possible, also provide examples of how these fixtures cast light to support your use of this fixture in the space. SUBMISSION Your Submission will include: Cover page Table of contents Write up Lighting Scrapbook/ Research Book Light Map + Red line floor plan Sourced light fixtures Once completed, submit a copy of your PDF to the project folder on Canvas for grading. Your files should be labeled as such;
