Assignment Description Students will submit an independent assignment that facilitates a beginning understanding of the principles and expectations of scholarly writing and informational literacy at the university level. This is a ‘take home’ assignment and will be made available to students on Blackboard following the week four (4) class. Students will apply the content learned in Weeks 4 and 5 of the course to complete the work. The assignment is submitted in Week 6 and should not exceed two (2) pages double spaced (exclusive of title page and reference pages). Students must submit individual and original work. All submissions must adhere to APA (6th ed.) format and must be accompanied by an integrity pledge, signed by the student. The assignment is submitted to Turnitin. Assignment Guidelines This assignment is designed to help you apply the principles and expectations of scholarly writing and informational literacy at the university level in four (4) ways: 1. evaluating the quality, credibility and relevance of scholarly information sources, such as peer-reviewed journal articles 2. summarizing and synthesizing scholarly evidence 3. using APA 6th edition rules of style and format 4. organizing your submission to include a title page, text pages, and a reference page These skills will help you as you plan, write, and submit your Personal Reflective Paper due in Week 11. Prior to completing this assignment, it is essential that you engage in the course content from Weeks 4 and 5. Then, please follow the step-by-step instructions below. Instructions 1. Use the Humber Library website to locate the following journal article: o 2. In four (4) to five (5) sentences, summarize the main ideas of the article. Please note that the summary should be stated in your own words (i.e., paraphrased), without the use of direct quotations. Your response should reflect that you have read the entire article and not just the abstract. Following the guidelines in Step 2, summarize the main ideas of the article that you selected. 6. To demonstrate your ability to synthesize information, write one sentence that pulls together one (1) or two (2) main ideas from the assigned article and your selected article. 7. Consider what you have learned by engaging in this process. Write one sentence that captures this key learning. 8. Organize your work so that it reflects all assignment components listed below.
