This assignment asks you to translate the reflective thinking you have been doing throughout the course into a reflective essay. While your reflective essay should be based on the materials covered in the entire course, the detailed instructions below will give you some guidance about which units to focus on for parts of this assignment. Your essay should have a title page at the beginning and a reference page at the end (not included in the total page length). The remainder of the reflection essay should be broken down into the following five sections:
1.Description: What were the main themes covered in Units 6–9? How do these themes add to the ones you included in your third assignment? How might they contradict some of your earlier learning? This section should be brief and factual.
2.Feelings: What thoughts and feelings did the ideas covered in the learning materials, particularly those in Units 6–9, arouse in you? Were any of these feelings the same or different from those you described in relation to the first five units of the course (Assignment 3)? Be specific in identifying your feelings (both positive and negative). Describe the ways various article(s) from Units 6–9 impacted your thoughts and feelings.
3.Evaluation/Analysis: How has what you learned in Units 6–9 enhanced what you already knew? Challenged your earlier understandings? Changed some of your earlier understandings?
4.Conclusion: What knowledge will you take away from your learning in Units 6–9? How might you incorporate your new knowledge and understandings into your own personal theory of counselling? What will you leave behind?
Action: Following all the reflection and learning you have done in this course, provide a brief description of your personal theory of counselling. You need not invent a new counselling theory; instead, this part of the assignment requires that you use the concepts and theoretical constructs covered in this course. You can also build on the counselling theory you began in Assignment 3 and added to in section 4 of this assignment to describe your counselling model.
