Learner responds to Case Scenario #1- Case scenario #1 - Lamar Lamar is four years old, and he attends Pine Street Child Development Centre. He maintains a regular attendance record, and his parents are proud of the excellent attendance award that he received. His family of four is very religious, and recently migrated to Calgary from the Caribbean. His father works in another province, and comes home once, each month. His mother stays at home with his eight month old sister. His parents are concerned that he is not interacting much with others, and not making friends. While most of Lamar’s communication is understood by his parents, his teachers and peers, on the otherhand, experience difficulty understanding him. This leads to frustration, and sometimes anger when he speaks, and he is not understood. He follows instructions given by his parents, and interacts well with Mrs. Rambaran who works in another play room at the Centre. Mrs. Rambaran is also from the Caribbean. Most of the day, Lamar either sits in a corner watching his peers play or he plays alone next to them. He participates in group games only when the activity is music and movement. He enjoys musicand movement activities, particularly when they are done outdoors. Lamar’s parents are concerned thathe will not be ready for school since all that he does is play, consequently, they requested that the teachers prepare him for school by teaching him to write his name, recognize numbers, and letters in order for him to begin reading. They also suggested several of Lamar’s favorite television programs that support learning those concepts. 1. Communication with parents:How might you help Lamar’s parents to understand how young children learn through their play, and the kinds of experiences that support their development? Refer to your text book, and your ELCC courses. Use applicable information from your responses to questions two and three to prepare for a meeting with Lamar’s parents. Consider as well, using both written and visual documentation to facilitate their understanding (i.e. learning story, letter to the parents, video clip etc.) Additionally, provide suggestions regarding how they might support Lamar’s interests and/or development at home you guys already have my book details for this subject
