Internship Experience Report - Learning Objectives and Career Goals

 

§ To be able to describe the practicum work experience in terms of learning objectives whether it was achieved or not

§ Evaluate your own experience and express your thoughts

 

§ To give an insight to faculty evaluating the work experience

 

 

You are to write a report about what you did during your internship experience. Please find below guidelines to help you structure your report

Part One: A profile of your host organization and your department

 

Part Two: An overview of what you did in your work term, what new skills and

 

experiences you have gained, and how the position helped or did not help in reaching your learning goals. What did you accomplished during your work term and what are your goals for your next work experience after the school graduation.

Part Three: How this internship will help you in your career? What will be your future

 

goal in the long run?

 

Your report must be as per the following format but not limited to the following:

 

 

1: Company Overview

 

§ What company do you work for? Some background information such as how long have they been in business, what's their presence like in the Canadian/International market.

§ What was the interview process to get hired for this job? (Online interview)

 

§ Include an organizational chart of your department and who do you report to?

 

§ What are the company mission, vision and values?

 

 

2: Job Onboarding

§ What are your duties?

 

§ How did you perform your duties?

 

§ How was your learning curve towards your duties?

 

§ What are the types of training you receive, (I receive in- person training for 3 days) were they efficient, if yes why if no why not?

3: Your experience

 

§ Did you achieve your learning goals?

 

§ Describe at least 4 learning goals and how did you manage to achieve them? If not, why was this the case?

§ Would there be anything that you would do different? If yes/no why?

 

§ How would you rate your experience based on metrics such as: the company’s philosophy, your job duties, the environment, your supervisor and co-workers. (RATE 5 OUT OF 5)

4: Introspection about your job/company

 

§ Perform a SWOT analysis on the job experience.

 

§ Would you recommend this job to another unversity student, If yes/no why not? ( YES I RECOMMEND)

 

§ Were you able to do any networking at your current job?

 

o Any particular person or customer that you met that stood out for you? (MENTION ANY NAME OF CO_WORKER)

 

5: During your work, how did the formal education you received at university help you achieve your best at work?

§ Which hard skills did you demonstrate at work and how can you develop it further?

§ Which soft skills did you demonstrate and how are you planning to develop it further

§ Any other skills, you developed?

 

 

6: Vision

 

§ Where do you envision yourself going now - what plans do you have for your next step?

§ What is your overarching career goal?

 

§ Did your practicum work experience confirm or change your career goal? How?

 

§ Now that you have had this practicum experience, what are your plans for your next job? (What jobs will you pursue next to get you closer to your career goal?)
