Scenario
You are the volunteer Communications Coordinator for the Conestoga Diversity Student Club (CDSC), a group of students who organize events to celebrate diversity at Conestoga College.The club doesn’t have much money, but after working at it for a while, you were finally able to put together a website for the club. The website gives the history of the club and its mandate.The website also lists activities and upcoming events for the club, including Diversity Days at Conestoga, Diversity Dances, guest speakers at Conestoga, trips to other cultural events and other fun stuff.For one of your events in Kitchener, the club president arranged with the MPP to get free access to a community center for one of the club’s Diversity Dances. The MPP also arranged for additional funding to help promote the event and for a security company to provide security,which was a requirement for centre, at the event at a greatly discounted rate. But now that you have a website, a couple city politicians, the security company at your event and otherorganizations have started asking if they can post notices or links on your club’s website. The board of directors for the Conestoga Student Inc. (CSI) discussed the website policy for clubs at the last meeting and decided not to allow outside groups to post messages on the site.You just received the following email from the MPP, Linda Limbo, to advertise a “Meet andGreet” session she’s holding at the local Community Centre about the works she is doing in the community. She is the MPP who provided support for your club’s event at the community centre. Conestoga College club policy requires that you respond in writing to the request. Although you cannot post the notice for the session on the website, there are other alternatives you can offer to advertise the event to your group. She could come to speak to the club at one of the club’s events. You can also provide the information about her event at your club meetings and distribute any flyers she has at your meetings for those who are interested. The next meeting for the club will take place on the first Wednesday of next month.
