Analyzing Specialized Units, Tools, and Career Roles in Criminal Investigations

•You must select one (1) of the two (2) topics provided below.

•Write a minimum of three (3) to five (5) page APA essay (not including a cover and reference page) but no more than seven (7) pages.

When researching, ensure you are getting your information from a reputable sources. If you have not done a lot of researching, you will find resources after each topic is introduced, which you can use in your essay.,

In this assignment, you will review the Bruce McArthur serial murder investigation (Project Houston and Project Prism) out of Toronto, Ontario.  You will be responsible for researching the details of the case, then addressing the outcomes of this module in relation to the McArthur investigation:

•Outcome 1: Describe the specialized policing units that address issues related to major crimes and historic missing persons;

•Outcome 2: Analyze current issues that officers encounter and experience when working on cases related to major crimes and historic missing persons;

•Outcome 3: Explore the legislation and tools that assist officers in investigations relating to major crimes and historic missing persons;

•Outcome 4: Discuss career options that network with, support, and integrate with officers that investigate major crimes and historic missing persons cases.

Find, read, and cite three to five additional sources (minimum should be six). When researching, ensure you are getting your information from reputable sources of which Wikipedia is not.

•What specialized policing units were involved? Identify a minimum of three (3) specialized units and describe briefly their involvement in this operation. How do they work together to relay information and support one another?

•What issues are present? Issues may include any barriers or obstacles the officers/investigation encounter. It may also include any results, consequences, or considerations of the case. Identify at least two (2) issues. Analyze how they impact the case and the ability of the officers to do their jobs.

Topic 1: Bruce McArthur Investigation

•What tools and techniques did they use? Tools and techniques may include policing techniques, strategies, technology, or any methods that support the case or initiatives. Identify a minimum of three (3) tools used in this operation and explore how they support the investigation.

•What people (positions, roles) are involved? Identify at least two (2) career roles and explain how they are involved in this operation. Discuss how your identified roles support the main investigators/units involved in leading the investigation.

Remember...this is an analytical research essay on a serial murder police investigation with code names Project Houston and Project Prism (these are not units).  You should be identifying, after researching and reading a minimum of five (5) to six (6) resources, the Specialized Units, Issues, Tools and Positions/Roles that were involved in this investigation.  DO NOT give me a general essay on major crimes or missing persons.  Look for additional correspondence sent through Canvas from your instructor.

Tim Bosma went missing in Ontario after he put his Dodge truck up for sale on Kijiji.  Similar to the previous assignments, you will be responsible for researching the details of the case, then addressing the outcomes of this module in relation to the scenario.  The Tim Bosma essay should be written from a forensics point of view.

•Outcome 1: Describe forensic identification sections;

•Outcome 2: Analyze current issues that officers encounter and experience when working in forensic identification sections;

•Outcome 3: Explore the legislation and tools that assist officers assigned to forensic identification sections;

•Outcome 4: Discuss career options that network with, support, and integrate with officers involved in forensic investigations.
