MARK 1120 Introductory Marketing
Answered

Question:

Now that you have learned the basics of marketing, it is time for you to demonstrate your understanding of the main concepts from this course.

This Marketing Minute assignment is a short two-to-four minute presentation of a real-world marketing example currently making headlines in the news. Students will use popular resources, such as The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Businessweek, Globe and Mail, The Province, BC Business, The Economist, etc., to research and identify ONE current headline that has some relevance to marketing.

The example selected must be related to at least one of the marketing concepts we have covered in this course. This may include: the 4 P’s of marketing (product, price, place, promotion), market segmentation or positioning, market research, marketing environment, target marketing, global/international marketing, new product development, new market development, innovative distribution networks, etc.

Students will find a company, brand, product or service that is making news somewhere in the world, and analyze it from a marketing perspective.  Some questions you should consider:

1. What principle(s) of marketing is this story related to?

2. Why is it newsworthy?

3. Who is impacted? Be as specific as possible.

4. How does this affect consumers?

5. When and where is this taking place?

This presentation will be submitted to instructor via recorded audio, using Brightspace’s audio recording function.  It is strongly recommended that you write out a script of what you want to say in your presentation prior to recording.  You do not need to submit your script – only the audio recording.
