Q: Write an analytical research reportbased on one of the topics listed below or a field-related topic of your choice.Use at least 3research sources, and make sure that at least 1 is peer-reviewed. Select sophisticated and trustworthy sources that will impress and persuade your readers. If you choose your own field-related topic, run it by mefor approval and if necessary, to discuss how to narrow it down (email me by March 7)
Make the topic specific enough and write the report from the perspective of a professional in your field and for a specific audience. Generic, vague, and unprofessional reports will receive low grades.
Topic 1: The owners of a restaurant located in the London, Ontario downtown core have decided to open a new location on Oxford, across the street from the Fanshawe main campus. Write a report making recommendations on how they should advertise this new restaurant to Fanshawe students/ staff/ students and staff.
Topic 2: Choose a restaurant located in London, ON that does not have – to your knowledge – an effective garbage separation and/or recycling program. Consider what types of waste it typically produces and make some suggestions. (For example, do they receive a lot of items in cardboard boxes? What do they do with the boxes? How about the glass bottles? Plastic bottles? Etc.) Emphasize the benefits of applying your suggestions.
Topic 3: The owner of a London restaurant has been informed by HR that there appears to be a low retention rate of younger female servers in the restaurant, and that the reason seems to be harassment from clients and other staff members. Write a report analyzing the problem and suggesting potential solutions.
Topic 4: The owner of a London restaurant has decided to use exclusively local produce for its menu and has tasked you with researching local farms to see what options might be the best. (For example,a service for individuals and families. Are there any such services available for restaurants? Look into this possibility. Discuss prices, availability of products, advantages, etc. Recommend a course of action.)
[Related topic: The restaurant owner would like to offer a larger selection of Ontario wines and beers. What types of products are likely to attract more customers? How should the restaurant market its new product selection in order to attract more customers?]
Topic 5: You are a Fanshawe student working for a London restaurant. You are very ambitious and hope to open a restaurant of your own within a few years. Since you are so dedicated to the business, you noticed several improvements the restaurant management could make in order to make the workplace better for the staff and/or attract more clients. Write a research report for the General Manager detailing and supporting your suggestions.
Topic 6: Write a report for the owner of a London restaurant making suggestions on some technologies that could be used to enhance the business. (For example, a system that might allow patrons to make reservations and place orders online before they arrive, so that they can reduce their waiting time as much as possible – this would certainly appeal to busy professionals. Are there any other uses of new technologies you can think of?)
Topic 7: You are working for a small London restaurant that is about to expand. The owner is looking into purchasing new equipment for the kitchen, for the eating area, etc. (define your own scenario). Write a report making some suggestions (compare products and discuss which would be best and why.)
Topic 8: London, ON is a multicultural city with an increasing number of international students. (For example, 25% of the student population at Fanshawe is represented by international students.) Many of these students have various dietary restrictions that may be based in cultural or religious factors. There are also many students who are allergic to various foods or cannot tolerate them for various other medical reasons. Keeping these aspects in mind, you have come up with a business idea for a restaurant to be opened on campus (at Fanshawe or at Western University). Write a report for one of these educational institutions asking for permission to open the restaurant. Explain its health and inclusivity benefits.
