Purpose:

For students to understand and critique an agency while evaluating the purpose of a chosen program and identifying/creating a measurement tool that would support the collection of data to support the desired outcome identified.  Assignment to be submitted as a voice-over PPT (20 minute maximum allotted time for whole submission- Section 1 & 2). 

 

Section 1: Agency and Program

 

Step 1:

A. Choose a real agency and describe the chosen agency. Include the following:

a) The mission and purpose of the agency,

b) The organization of the agency,

c) The programs the agency runs,

d) How the agency is funded,

e) Choose and describe one program that you wish to focus on and include the following:

i. The demographics and information about the community that the participants such as age, ethnicity, geography, gender, and the community or communities in which they live,

ii. The agency’s description of the outcomes of the program

iii. Assess the program’s incorporation of young person participation based on the information provided.

 

B. Choose and describe one outcome of the program that interests you and is of benefit to the participants of the program. The outcome may be one that agencies have already identified as important or one that you yourself think is important.

 

Critique the following:

i. Does the program match the mission and values of the agency? If yes, how

so and if not, explain and provide suggestions for congruency.

ii. Does the outcome identified by you, match the mission and values of the

agency?

iii. How does the outcome benefit the participants of the program and in what

way?

iv. What is the overall aim of collecting this data? (think short-term and long-

term)

v. How is this data significant to CYC practice/professional practice?

 

Required: Minimum of five references utilized in the critique of outcome and program. Please be sure to include previous relevant program literature.

Section 2:Define Outcome and Measurement tool  (Due Week 8) - Max 10 minutes

 

Step 2: Define Outcome and Measurement tool

 

a) Using all the information and material gathered from your research into the agency, program, write a description of the outcome.  

b) Choose a type of measurement strategy for the outcome. This could include questionnaires, surveys, observations, interviews, participant-observations, or other strategies.

c) Explore how this outcome might support effective young person participation. Consider Hart (1992) Ladder of Participation and address the importance of supporting young person participation overall in child/youth development. Clearly support with references (include previous program literature).

 

 

Step 3: Measurement Tool for Outcome

 

Using the method of your choice, you will create or obtain a measurement tool that measures the outcome of your choice.

If you choose to use a tool already created, you will have to justify your choice by explaining how the tool measures your outcome. If you are going to modify an already developed measurement tool, or if you choose to use a tool already developed, you must include it in your final submission. You must explain why and how this measurement tool meets the outcome chosen. Do not forget to provide support for effectiveness of tool and critical reflection on the tool chosen.
