Critical Dates: Project Assigned: Week #6 Class Working Time: N/A (online delivery) Project Due: Week #9 (Intersession) 2. Project Overview: (description of this project) The objective of this mini project is to create a custom housing for a TV Remote in the SolidWorks environment. The student will design a custom housing including button cut-outs, screw bosses, ribs and fasteners. 3. Project Learning Outcomes: (what the student will complete in this phase) At the completion of this project, the student teams will be able to: a) Create SolidWorks part models following best practices identified in this course. b) Utilize surfacing techniques to create a SolidWorks part model c) Create SolidWorks assemblies with properly organized file structure and mates. d) Design screw bosses, ribs and clearances for plastics. CADE2003 MINI_PROJECT Design a TV Remote 20% School of Mechanical Engineering Technologies Week #6 4. Project Deliverables: (what the student will complete) The student will complete a mated assembly including their custom top and bottom housings and the fastener component. The procedure is:
Design a custom housing and part into top (Remote_Top) and bottom (Remote_Bottom) components.
Design a button pattern and cut into Remote_Top
Add screw boss features such that 4 screws may be inserted from the bottom and fasten into top (modify both parts). Screw should be concealed from touch.
Add ribs to screw bosses for extra support
Create an assembly including Remote_Top, Remote_Bottom and fasteners. 6) Create a sketch (hand-drawn, PowerPoint, MsWord, etc) of your button layout. For this project, is suggested to use fastener McMasterCarr part# 99461A120. You may choose a longer or shorter screw if required. Use a 0.060” wall thickness for Remote_Top and Remote_Bottom 5. Submission Format: (what submission looks like) The student will submit a single compressed folder(.zip) containing the following files:
Remote_Assembly (SolidWorks assembly file)
Remote_Top (SolidWorks part file)
Remote_Bottom (SolidWorks part file) 4) 99461A120 (McMasterCarr SolidWorks Part File, may substitute for different length)
your sketch of button layout (any format) 6. Marking Scheme: (how the student will be graded) Rubric Individual 20% (of final course grade) Notes:
A detailed marking rubric will be provided through blackboard.
This Project represents 20% of your final course mark.
