Canadian Business Style (10%) Provide a general description of the way a typical Canadian Businessman or Businesswoman would conduct business. Include in your description the following:
a. Communication styles
b. Conversation
c. Relationship-building techniques
d. Other elements that affect business styles This must be in your own words but based on research that is properly documented in APA format.
2. ASSIGNED COUNTRY Business Style (10%) See Dinner Party document to find out the name of the Assigned Country. It is NOT your home country. Provide a general description of the way a typical person from your Businessman or Businesswoman would conduct business. Include in your description the following:
a. Communication styles
b. Conversation
c. Relationship-building techniques
d. Other elements that affect business styles This must be in your own words but based on research that is properly documented in APA format. (see Instructions & Rubric document for the ‘assigned’ country)
3. SIX Theories (60% total, each theory worth 10%) In your analysis as to why the dinner was not a success, choose SIX intercultural theories from the provided list to discuss. Complete each theory in 3 parts:
a. DEFINE each theory in your own words (using research to back this up). Make sure to cover both sides of the theory.
b. CLASSIFY both the Canadians and people from your ASSIGNED COUNTRY (e.g. are you Individualistic or Collectivistic? Masculine or Feminine? Low or High Power Distance?)
c. APPLY this theory to the dinner party itself. Provide a specific scenario that could explain how this theory could have influenced why the dinner party was not a success. If the application is not specific, it won’t be accepted (you can’t just say they are classified differently so this is the problem, you must give an example of a specific inte
raction based on your knowledge of this theory). Choose from 6 theories* below:
1. Power Distance 2. Individualism/Collectivism
3. Masculinity/Femininity
4. Uncertainty Avoidance
5. Long-Term vs. Short-Term Orientation
6. Indulgence vs. Restraint
7. High/Low context communication
8. Value Orientations Theory (Kluckhohn & Strodtbeck)
9. Non-Verbal Communication – must contain specific examples of non-verbals from the Assigned country based on research.
10. Verbal Communications (you MUST discuss verbal styles such as elaborate vs. succinct—this is NOT about simple language barrier and that will not be an acceptable answer here). * If theories above are listed on the same line, they count as one theory and they must be done together (e.g. Individualism/Collectivism are two sides of one theory and must both be covered as one theory).
