You must sign-up to research and submit a write up on a business article relating to one of the following industries. Your topic must be approved by the instructor or it will not be marked.

INDUSTRY FOCUS – Maximum of 5 students per industry

Food - franchises, fast food, trends

Energy - hydro, fossil fuels, nuclear power, solar, wind

Resources - forestry, mining, fisheries

Retail - department stores, specialty

Transportation - airlines, railways, marine

Communications - TV, satellites, cellulars

Manufacturing - automobiles, electronics

Financial Services - banks, stock brokers

Public Sector - hospitals, crown corporations (eg. Canada Post, BC Hydro)

High Technology - computers, robotics

Preparation

Find a recent article dealing with the industry you have chosen. This article could address a particular company within the industry or the industry as a whole.

Write a 3-4 page report on the article. Your write-up should include a synopsis of the article, an explanation of the positive and/or negative implications to the company/industry, your views on the article (do you agree or disagree with the author’s points, and why), any recommendations you wish to make (for instance, are there opportunities or threats posed to the industry/company and if so, what could the industry/company do.

This is a business report, please make sure you talk about business aspects for example if you are writing about a new product launch, don’t talk too much about the features of the product, talk more about the impact to business You may use the following sources (available at the Library)
