1 This question relates to your work on the term project.
A. Describe what aspects of your work on the project you found challenging, and why. Also describe what you did to try to overcome these challenges. If you didn’t find any aspect of the project particularly challenging, describe at least two things that you think might be challenging for other students, and describe why you think so.
B. Describe what aspects of your work on the project may potentially help you going forward from this course. You may discuss how you think what you learned by working on the project might help you both as a student and as an information technology worker in the future
2] This question relates to the implementation work you did for the assignments and labs this semester.
A. During the semester you had to create virtual machines, install operating systems, make sure your virtual machines could communicate with each other, and join your client VM to the server VM. Describe in detail any challenges you encountered during each of these tasks. If you did not encounter any difficulties yourself, describe parts of the procedures that you think might give trouble to others who are learning this for the first time.
B. Describe how you dealt with the challenges that you described in #2A (or write advice for those might be learning this for the first time).
C. If you had the opportunity to teach INFO 2416 with any resources you could ask for, would you set up the class so your students could work with physical computer and networking hardware, or would you do like we have done this semester and use virtual machines and networks? Describe what you would choose, and give some clear reasons for your choice.

During this semester, you have learned about both high-level (conceptual, “big picture”, focusing on planning and design) and low-level (practical, “day to day”, focusing on hands-on configuration and implementation) aspects of using Windows Server. Specifically, you have learned about directory services (Active Directory), infrastructure services (DHCP server, DNS server), and application services (print server, file server, web server).
A. Describe what you would consider to be some of the tasks an entry-level IT employee in a large organization might be given, in each of these three areas (directory services, infrastructure services, application services). For each task you describe in this exam question, give a rationale as to why it might be an appropriate level of responsibility for an entry-level worker. Describe at least two tasks for each of the three areas (so six in total).
B. Once an IT employee has more experience (that is, they are now a “junior worker” instead of an “entry-level worker”), they might be asked to take on more responsibility. For each of the three areas described above, describe a “next level” responsibility that an IT employee might be given, once they have shown they can handle the entry-level tasks from #3A. For each responsibility, describe why you think it would be appropriate for person at that experience level.
C. From any one of the three areas above, describe a task that you have learned about this semester that would require input from senior-level IT staff. Describe why you think this task would not be appropriate for employees with lesser experience. (Pick just one task from one of the areas, not one task from each of them.)

Reflect on what you learned this semester about configuring shared printers. Pick at least two of the concepts you learned about that you would likely implement if you were responsible for managing print services in a small business (20 employees or fewer), and describe in detail why you would find them useful. Specifically, describe how these choices would benefit the printer users and also the printer administrators.

One of the concepts covered this semester was the assigning of folder permissions using AGDLP. This method is claimed to provide a means of configuring and managing user permissions that is “better” than assigning file permissions individually to users as necessary.
A. If you knew someone who was the IT manager for a small business (20 employees or fewer), would you encourage them to spend time and money to convert their methodology for controlling file access to AGDLP, if they were not already doing so? Give some detailed reasons why you think it would be a good idea (or not, depending on your answer).
B. In your opinion, is there a “tipping point” of business size beyond which AGDLP should always be the methodology of choice, or should it just be used in every situation? Give reasons for your answer.

When you learned about group policy objects, you learned that you can apply GPOs by linking them to organizational units, or by using security filtering to apply the GPO to specific users or security groups. Both methods produce similar results, in that you can target specific groups of people with a GPO.
A. Given a situation where you are setting up a network for the first time, which method (linking to OUs or using security filtering) would you choose to use for applying GPOs? Give specific reasons for your choice.
B. In your opinion, how important is it to use GPOs at all, if you are managing an Active Directory network? Give specific reasons to support your answer.

In the last part of the semester, you learned about how DHCP and DNS work. In particular, you learned about the process that is used to assign addresses using DHCP, and you learned how the DNS process works to resolve domain names.
A. Choose one aspect of the DHCP process that was new to you, that you think you may benefit from knowing in your IT career (academic or professional). Explain how you might make use of this knowledge in your future.
B. Choose one aspect of the DNS domain name resolution process that was new to you, that you think you may benefit from knowing in your IT career (academic or professional). Explain how you might make use of this knowledge in your future.
C. Provide a screenshot showing the DNS resource records for your project server.

Describe one topic area of the course (either that was covered, or which is in the course presentation but we were not able to cover) that you wish that you could have learned more about given the time, or that you wish you could have had more time to work on in order to improve your mastery of the material. Explain in detail why you would have chosen this topic.
