1.Each student will be assigned one ethical situation by their tutor.

Ethical Scenario You are in the staff lunchroom and your buddy nurse starts to imitate one of your patients who had a stroke last week and has difficulty speaking. Others in the room are laughing and looking at you, wondering what you will do. 

2. The student will explore their assigned ethical situation and apply the IDEA ethical decision-making process:

 Identify the facts: Identify the facts related to the ethical issue. Consider the following: relevant clinical indications, individual/group preferences, evidence, contextual factors and personal considerations.

Determine relevant ethical values and responsibilities: Discuss professional nursing values and responsibilities (CNO, 2019; CNA, 2017) related to the ethical situation.

Explore the options: Identify three options for responding to the ethical situation. For each option identify: the potential benefits/strengths, harms/limitations, and any related laws/policies.

Act: Identify which option you would choose and provide rationale for this choice.
