COMM 11040 Writing and Communication

Task:

Write a five-paragraph essay (approximately 750 words) that puts forward a clear argument and is supported by documented sources.  Use at least two secondary sources and have a least one quotation per body paragraph.  

The Research Essay must be based on one of the following readings from our textbook:

1. “The Slender Trap” by Trina Piscatelli on p. 129

In the “Slender Trap,” Trina Piscatelli argues that anorexia nervosa is an illness caused by negative social conditions for young women.  Do you agree?  Write a 5-paragraph essay arguing one side of the topic.  Make sure to have a counterpoint.

2. “Shopping Around” by Aniko Hencz on p. 146

In “Shopping Around,” Aniko Hencz discusses some of the negative aspects of online shopping.  What do you think?  Write a 5-paragraph essay arguing one side of the topic.  Make sure to have a counterpoint.

3. “No More Classes, No More Books” by Barbara Ferguson on p. 311

Consider the pros and cons of on-line learning the writer identifies.  Online learning might be the education model of the future.  Is this good or not?  Select one side and create a 5-paragraph argument essay to support your viewpoint.  Make sure to have a counterpoint.
