ROLE PLAY ACTIVITY SCENARIO: As the war in Syria continues, the stream of refugees seeking a safe and welcoming country to call their home also continues. Although many countries around the world have accepted many Syrian refugees, there are still millions of Syrians who seek and deserve political asylum under international law. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is the international body responsible for dealing with the situation. UNHCR has begun a process of reviewing the actions and policies of different countries on the Syrian refugee crisis with a goal to encourage and support countries to accept (more) refugees affected by the ongoing war in Syria. You are a newly appointed ambassador of a country. Your first important task is to deliver a 5-minute speech (around at the UN General Assembly about your country’s role in handling the Syrian refugee crises. As a newly appointed UN diplomat, your knowledge of these issues is minimal. You have five weeks to research and prepare your first UN General Assembly speech. In your speech, you must deliver your country’s official position or policy, past actions, and future plans on the Syrian refugee crises. Note that your role as an ambassador may include justifying your country's controversial policies.
