ELCC1002 Introduction to Early Learning and Child Care
Task
Purpose:
The roles and responsibilities of an Early Childhood Educator are vast, complex and important. We play a role as part of a team involving the child, their family and/or primary caregiver, our colleagues and other professionals in the community. We have a great responsibility to plan and provide learning opportunities for children, communicate with families and maintain a healthy physical, social and emotional learning environment. Our actions and our words must reflect the highest standards and commitment to the profession and should reflect our beliefs and attitudes about children and about learning.
Process:
Students are required to prepare two different PowerPoint slides presentation (Approx 12-15 slides) using photos and text outlining their beliefs, understandings and assumptions about children in Early Childhood Education and your role as an ECE. There should be two philosophies discussed, one on each presentation. Consider what we have discussed this far in the course and the following content areas (These are only suggestions to get you thinking – Do not simply create a slide for each bullet point below) when preparing your information (Note: your philosophy is unique to you and these content areas are just to help guide your thinking).
- Vision of the child and Early Childhood Education
- Quality in Early Childhood Education
- Who am I as an educator when supporting young children?
- Theories that have influenced your thinking
- Curriculum approaches
- Relationships
- Ethics
- Lifelong learning
- Parents and families
Power Point content:
- ECE role/responsibilities clearly outlined and well supported
- Personal belief regarding what children need from ECE and ECEs clearly outlined and well supported
- How ECEs create high quality learning environments clearly outlined and well supported
- How ECEs can offer support to children and families clearly outlined and well supported
- Your commitment to life-long learning clearly outlined and well supported
Conventions:
- Spelling and punctuation
- Sentence structure/grammar
- Providing a reference page with appropriate citation style
- Citing a minimum of 3 references
- Citing references appropriately in the assignment
Use the considerations listed above to guide your presentation. Look to each chapter of our course textbook for ideas and information and must use a minimum of 3 references other than your textbook. I am looking specifically for the incorporation of content we have discussed and how this informs your personal philosophy of Early Childhood Education.
