Assignment 2: Deviance and Crime Instructions Details: To achieve a better understanding of the sociological explanation of deviance. Using the library and online research, answer the following main question - How do sociologists theorize/explain deviance and are these theories useful and applicable to current criminal activities? Objective: Chose one theory/approach that you feel works best when theorizing deviance. Find at least one external academic source to supplement your assignment. Find at least two popular culture references (newspaper clippings, videos, magazine articles) that help explain the particular theoretical approach to deviance you have chosen. Please provide the links. This is a descriptive type of paper. You need to convince me that your theory works the best when trying to explain deviance. Therefore, you must first describe/explain the deviance theory you have chosen and then, using your pop culture sources, you must demonstrate that this particular theory does a good job in explaining deviance (causes of deviance and or crime). Do not be afraid to point out the weaknesses of your chosen theory, but your goal is to convince the reader that the theory you have chosen is the best suited approach. This assignment should be 4 pages in length, double spaced. Please provide a proper bibliography. Once again, plagiarism and/or academic misconduct of any kind will not be tolerated.
