Culture Awareness Task
In this assignment, you will be asked to identify what makes an environment culturally diverse and will then demonstrate your ideal culturally responsive classroom. You may choose to show this environment in the form of a mini model, essay, poster, design or PowerPoint which will be supported by a written rationale.
We are going to use the guide from the Alberta Teacher Association publication titled "Here comes everyone: Teaching in the intercultural classroom." in the steps below.

Step 1:
In page 2 of the document, read the example of "The tree of life". You are now going to create your own tree of life example shaping your cultural identity.
Design your tree and add your experiences and cultural pieces. Think of the roots as early family experiences, beliefs and values; the trunk as childhood growth and development; and the branches as lessons learned from school, work, travel and relationships. Consider some biases you might carry. Name one- example Long hair is feminine, Certain foods are unhealthy in my culture etc
Step 2:
Describe ways you could get to know more about the children in your room. How can you learn about a child's background and culture if they can't always communicate this to you due to their age? Share 4 ideas.
