BA2710 Video Project: Customer Service Problem and Service Recovery Scenario

Project Instructions

Plan, video, and edit a 5-10 minute video presentation which: Demonstrates a customer service problem scenario Demonstrates a service recovery solution scenario to the above problem You have two options in producing this video: You can ask friends or family members to act with you You may create a group of up to three people from this class (BA2710_EC_S20 ONLY) to submit a single project together. All members are responsible for submitting the duplicated video to their own Moodle, and all members will receive the same grade. All other assignment requirements apply, and there are no exceptions or leniencies granted for group members missing or unable to complete their part (in other words, choose your partners wisely). Presentation content and format: A good project will accurately portray good customer service skills and practices in action. Focus particularly on the Skills For Success chapters in your text (i.e. Ch. 3, 4, and 5) and the material in Chapter 7 on Service Recovery. Edit the video using editing software. Use things such as subtitles, cuts, fades, credits, etc. This doesn’t have to be a professional-quality video, but the production value is one of the grading components. You need to do more than just record raw video footage. Be creative and have fun. On the other hand, don’t get too carried away. The point of this project is to demonstrate some of the concepts and skills that are covered in the textbook in real-life action. The total running time for the video should be between 5 and 10 minutes maximum. The file must be able to open on standard Windows 2016/Windows 10 operating systems. Do not save your video file as something that cannot be opened on a standard computer; it is your responsibility to check that the file audio and video works and is easily accessed. The maximum size of submission is 2GB, so please take this into consideration during the edit process. Post & comment: Post this video in the discussion forum under Assignment #2, and view the videos of your classmates. You will be expected to comment (what you liked, what you didn't like, how the video applied course theory, etc.) on a minimum of 5 videos posted by your classmates. Please choose the posting with the least amount of view in order to ensure that equal feedback is provided to everyone. BA 2710 Video Project If you choose to film your video in the traditional way: If you’re short on actors, why not use puppets? I asked Carolyn about this possibility and she said puppets would be fine. Many people are a lot more comfortable acting through puppets than with their own faces on camera so you might get better performances and a more exciting video this way, especially if you or your friend “are not actors”. All you need is a big table to sit under, a blank wall behind you and some cardboard-cut-out furniture (or doll furniture) to create the scene. If need be you could perform two characters at once, or you and your friend could perform up to four characters at once using puppets. The Library has cameras and tripods for free loan to students. Loans are for 3 days and you can renew them if you need more time (you do need to bring them back in to the library to get them renewed). If you can’t get in to the library to borrow equipment, most dollar stores sell mini tripods that would allow you to film your project with a smartphone. Make sure your phone shoots at least 640x480 video resolution (higher resolution is better). Also be sure to film in a quiet place so that the phone’s built-in microphone will record your actors, not the room noise, traffic, other people, etc. Filming video scenes with editing in mind: • Use the same camera to shoot all scenes • Use a tripod whenever possible • Shoot three extra seconds before and after every scene. Have all your actors stay in character for those three seconds. This leaves time for cuts, fades, etc. and guarantees that every part of your scene and all of your dialogue will be recorded. • Avoid backlit scenes. NEVER have the sun, a window or any bright light BEHIND your actors. • Avoid crossing light zones within a scene.DO NOT move the camera from a bright place to a dark place or vice versa. Editing and submitting your video: If you haven’t edited a video before I can recommend free editing software for your computer and walk you through how to use it. For example, Windows Movie Maker is free, pretty simple to use and does everything mentioned in your assignment handout (titles, cuts, fades, etc.).
