Subnetting Requirements

1. Every department and dormitory should be put on their own subnet. When you design the subnets, make sure your design supports the following:
i. 3 subnets for 3 dorms- each should support 200 hosts (no growth)
ii. 3 subnets for 3 departments. Each of these subnets should be capable of accommodating the expected number of students in 6 years. All of the professors from all departments should be put in another subnet and the design should include the expected growth in next 6 years.
iii. A subnet for administrative department that can support the hosts needed for the administrative staff. It should also consider the expected growth in the number of staff.The assigned network address is 145.42.16.0/20. So, do you think using this network address we can design all the necessary subnets with at least the required numbers of hosts? If yes, then design the subnet structure by showing the subnet names, network address, subnet mask and the range of IP address for every subnet. 2. Apply a hierarchical approach to design this network and draw a network diagram showing the subnets, and connections among the subnets with connectivity devices. Use appropriate devices for connectivity. Your network diagram should show:

3. List the key links by specifying the end points (e.g., Dorm1 to College campus link) for connecting different subnets. For each link, recommend the type of media to be used between devices and networks? Consider the distance between the end points when selecting the communication media.
