CMN 279 Introduction to Professional Communication
Task:
You are the president of a small company called Memoraid, which manufactures assistive technologies for people with dementia. You are writing a memo to the employees about an event two weeks ahead. This year, World Alzheimer’s Day falls on Sept 20, Friday. This is typically a day in which Alzheimer's organizations around the world concentrate their efforts on raising awareness about Alzheimer's and dementia. On Sept. 20th, the business will be closed and employees are asked to go to Wellesley Community Centre to participate in a community Alzheimer Awareness event beginning at 9 am followed by a BBQ and live entertainment after 4 pm. The event seeks to raise awareness the fact that dementia is a serious health issue and to raise funds for the Toronto Meals on Wheels, a charity that helps people with dementia who are unable to shop for their own food or to cook maintain their independence at home by delivering nutritious, delicious and affordable meals. Everyone will be paid as usual for the day and you are hoping that the event will build teamwork and raise your company’s profile in the community. You are also personally concerned about the issue of older adults with dementia at home in the community your company need to better understand the needs of the patients and their families.
The event begins at 9 am and runs until 10pm. There will be a booth for Memoraid outside the community centre. Employees should check in at the booth when they arrive. Since employees are being paid, they should treat it as a work day and attendance is expected. Families of employees are invited to volunteer. T-shirts will be available at the booth for employees and volunteers.
Employees should dress for the weather rain or shine. It is advised to bring a hat and sunscreen if concerned about sun protection. If it rains, employees should bring rain gear. They should dress comfortably and appropriately for the event.
