Strategic Intelligence Analysis Assignment: The Strategic Intelligence Assignment can be an individual essay or a combined group project. However, if you have selected a group project for the Tactical assignment, you will be expected to submit individual work in written form. You will research a crime group or crime trend of your choice.
Identify a current or historical organized crime group or you may choose any crime problem that has a strategic intelligence component. Once identified, you will construct an intelligence analysis report that would traditionally be disseminated inside your intelligence unit and/or to other crime analysts serving your jurisdiction or abroad (i.e. bordering police agencies or CBSA, Interpol etc.).
Choose a crime trend within Canada, the USA or you can broaden to an international crime group. Your strategic report is intended to detail the following: The “problem” The history of the “problem” How it was identified, emerged Social networks and analysis speaking to the organization Definition of its organised group status. How do you know it’s organized? Community or international impact (where applicable)
Analyse that concretely identifies your group as connected Demonstration of the Intelligence Cycle as a disseminated product to Commanders, including: Planning and Direction Collection Processing Analysis and Production Dissemination Solution to or recommendations for addressing the crime problem Use of Open source, closed source or Classified information Your Intelligence Report can include the use of visual aids such as maps, mug shots, trade data photos, charts or other visual aids you deem necessary for your strategic report. However, its intended purpose is to identify who your crime group membership are, what the implications are of the group operating in your areas as well as the short and long term implications (i.e. physical, financial etc.). Finally, your strategic analysis report should focus on the recommendations to commanders, fellow analysts and other agencies surrounding realistic, and focused interdiction and police intervention strategies. The steps moving forward from a “strategic” sense will be varied but should be applied in accordance to your organized crime group problem.
