Note About South Elevation Drawing

You are asked to do the following for Phase 3 of the design project:? *Exterior Column Design at grid J6 (based on concentric axial compression only).

o Note, there seems to be an error in the south elevation drawing – there is a column located at J6, asshown in the foundation plan, but it does not show in the south elevation drawing.

o The column shown in the set of drawings is an HSS, but for this project, you will select a W-shape ofA992 steel. Assume the flanges of the column to be oriented in the W-E direction.

o The column is pinned at both ends, but also consult the drawings (specifically the elevations) for anyframing that may brace the column. A structural analysis of the column would be required todetermine the true K value which is influenced by the end conditions.

o Show all checks including column compressive resistance, maximum slenderness ratio and width tothickness limits for the compression elements</
