Indigenous Peoples in Canada: Past & Present Situation of Inuit Citizens

Instructions

Instructions:
Answer the following TWO questions based on what has been taught in the course. Answer each question separately, and number them.
Write between 500 and 600 words PER QUESTION. NO MORE / NO LESS. I’m very strict about this; I check the word count. If you’re not within the word count (or very close to it), you should expect a low or even failing grade.

Academic Integrity:
NO ("OUTSIDE") INTERNET SOURCES OF ANY KIND: not plagiarized, not quoted, not paraphrased (i.e. no use of concepts/information/opinions that come from outside our course materials). Also, do NOT copy word-for word or simply repeat what is in the course materials, and do NOT change one word here and there to copy things from the course materials; this still constitutes plagiarism.
You must write this assignment yourself. If it appears that someone has written this work for you, in whole or in part, a charge of academic dishonesty might be brought against you and you might face sanctions.
Plagiarism and other forms of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated and will result in an academic integrity report. This typically results in a zero on the assignment and/or in the course.

The Nature of This Assignment:
No citations, no Works Cited page or bibliography page. No introduction, no conclusion. Just answer the questions directly and clearly in full sentences and logically organized paragraphs (no point form). Again, use only course materials to answer the questions (e.g. use the videos, readings, and recordings of our weekly classes from weeks 12 and 13 to help you understand whatever you choose to explain). Week 12 gives an overall context for discussing Indigenous peoples in Canada, including Inuit, and week 13 focuses on Inuit issues specifically.
Submission Guidelines:
Deadline: Monday, December 13, 11:59 p.m. (Toronto time). Submit it as an MS Word document, through the SafeAssign link. Do not email it.
The assignment will be accepted (with a 10% late penalty) only until Tuesday, December 14, 11:59 p.m. After Tuesday, Dec. 14, the mark will be zero. No extensions, except in the case of documented medical reasons or unpreventable circumstances. In any of these cases, it is your responsibility to contact me before the deadline.

QUESTIONS (Answer BOTH of the following):
1.    Based on the course materials for weeks 12 and especially 13, explain in your own words how Canada’s multicultural identity relates to the past and present situation of Inuit as citizens of Canada. Your answer will need to demonstrate that you can explain well the past and present situation of Inuit as citizens of Canada and in what ways Canada’s multiculturalism sees and values Inuit, or fails to do so. Illustrate your answer with some examples of the Inuit past and present experience in Canada.

2.    Based on the course materials for weeks 12 and especially 13, propose one way to improve Canada’s view of multiculturalism and citizenship in a way that is consistent with Inuit values and culture. Explain why you think your proposal is a good one or why you think it might work. Illustrate your answer with some examples.
