Assignment 2: Family Intervention and Advocacy Plan
Students can choose to complete this assignment as an individual, in pairs or triads.
This assignment will provide students with an opportunity to critically reflect on the complexity of family issues and to provide an intervention and advocacy strategy.
The assignment will be broken into the following sections:
Please provide a summary of each section in a word document (use headings to organize your work). The genogram and other supporting documents you may have can be either embedded in the word document or added as an appendix.
Presenting Issue |
What is the presenting issue in the family? Provide a brief overview of the presenting issue. |
Family Description |
Who makes up the family unit? Provide a genogram to illustrate who is in the family. What is unique about this family? |
Intersectional Analysis of Family |
Provide a summary of outlining the social location of this family? What are the social determinants impacting the ‘health’ of this family? (socio-economic status, racism, employment status, etc) |
Family Intervention Strategy |
Describe how you will intervene on the micro level with this family. What interventions would you recommend? (Program, services, supports, etc.) |
Advocacy Strategy |
Outline your advocacy strategy for the mezzo (community) and macro (policy) level. What strategy or approach can you take to promote change at the mezzo and macro level that would benefit this family? (For example, changes to a policy that would deem the family eligible for income support; writing a letter to the MP or MPP community development)? |
Community Partners |
Who are the community partners that will support your intervention and strategy? What referrals are necessary? |
Family Capacity for Change |
What are the natural resources are available for this family (financial, ability to problem-solve, attitude, skill, etc)? Consider both formal and informal resources Consider family motivation for change What would change look like for this family? How could you leverage already existing resources for this family? (For example, if they are part of a religious organization – could this organization help in this situation)? |
