Option 1: Poetry Essay - Compare and Contrast Two Poems

Please note that there are two options for Assignment 2 Assignment 2 relates to Units 3, 4, and 5. The value of this assignment is 15 percent of your Final Grade. For this assignment, you have two choices. Option 1 is an essay on poetry, relating to Units 3 and 4. Option 2 is an essay on drama, specifically, on Shakespeare's Othello, relating to Unit 5. Please note that whichever option you choose for Assignment 2, you are still required to study and master the material in all three units. Option 1: Poetry Total Marks: 100 The following pairs of poems explore a similar subject matter. Choose one of the pairs and write an essay of 600 to 800 words comparing and contrasting the two treatments of the same subject. Consider elements of style covered in the Units such as structure, point of view, tone, prosody, diction, imagery, and others. Make sure that your discussion of both poems makes your ideas about the theme or meaning clear. “White Dwarfs” by Michael Ondaatje and “Ariel” by Sylvia Plath OR “The Bull Calf” by Irving Layton and “Tulips” by Sylvia Plath Option 2: Drama Total Marks: 100 This assignment relates to Unit 5 on Shakespeare’s Othello. The assignment is worth 15 percent of your final grade. Please note that Assignment 4 also offers an opportunity to explore aspects of Shakespeare’s Othello. Choose one of the following topics and write an essay of 600 to 800 words: Consider the use of oral imagery in the play and discuss its thematic significance and dramatic purposes. Discuss the significance and dramatic purposes of Roderigo. Discuss the significance and dramatic purposes of the soliloquy of Iago, Act II, scene i. Discuss whether there is any justification for the idea that Emilia is not as innocent as she seems in regards to Iago’s schemes. Note:- preferred to write an essay on the poem i.e part 1. please do not use any high-level vocabulary. I want a simple essay:- no extra formatting etc.
