Analyzing the Queen of the North Tragedy Introduction On March 22, 2006, at 0022, The Queen of the North struck ground at Gil Island in Wright Sound. The ship sank below water at 0140, taking two people to their death. Following the incident, an inquiry led by George L. Morfitt developed the report Safety and BC Ferries: A Review of Operational Safety at BC Ferry Services Inc. You will write a five- to six-page, double-spaced analysis of this report in the context of the fundamental principles of a health and safety program. You may use other relevant resources to support your analysis. Instructions Study the January 2007 Morfitt report to understand the weaknesses identified in the safety program at BC Ferries, and the corrective actions recommended. Summarize your findings by listing at least 10 weaknesses and recommended corrective actions for each of them, described in the report.  Review the weaknesses and recommended actions listed in questions 1, in the context of the fundamental principles described in Topic 3, particularly identifying any fundamental principles which were not present in BC Ferries’ safety program. Summarize your findings in your report.Develop your own recommendations, where applicable, that would assist BC Ferries to align with the fundamental principles of a health and safety program. Each of the ten recommendations should identify: A clear statement of recommendation. The fundamental principle or weakness in the safety program it aims to address. The impact of addressing the principle or weakness. A method to address the principle or weakness. An estimate of the cost of implementation of this method (state your assumptions) and the ways in which the corporation will realize payback. You may need to do additional research to address this subject.
