Step 1: Idea generation. In a team of three, brainstorm and come up with an innovative idea to create a new product or improve on an existing product. Write a description and complete a sketch of your idea. ?
Our innovative idea is to create a hairbrush that essentially acts as a 2 in 1 product for consumers. We came up with the idea of making a hairbrush that allows you to put hair products such as moisturizer and/or detangler in the brush through the handle. The way the product will then be applied is when you put the hairbrush to your head and apply pressure on the bristle’s while brushing, the products will evenly disperse as you brush through your hair. This idea creates a simple and mess free way to apply your products after your shower without getting it all over your hands. It may also limit the amount of products you are using leading to less waste of a product and no overuse (using too much moisturizer can lead to greasy hair and defeats the purpose of having a shower). This 2 in 1 idea will cut the time you spend on your hair in half. While being able to disperse the product while brushing allows for your hair to absorb more of the product and keep it healthier with less time. You can choose how much product you want to put in the handle and what product you want to add. We have made it versatile with every kind of hair product you wish to use. This brush will be built with fine thin bristles that cover the brush to provide an easier way to detangle your hair as well. The handle will have a comfortable grip pad on it to provide comfort for your hands when in use and an easy twist off cap to add products. There will also be a see through tube on the back of the handle to see how much product you have in it.
Step 2: Idea evaluation: Now consider its feasibility, product design and market potential. Document your evaluation work. What process did you use? How did you decide? What makes it feasible? Use the voice of the customer or a similar tool to complete this step
Feasibility Assessing:? After Exploring the Niche market, analyzing the gap in the market, taking insight and opinion from potential customers, and evaluating the following below mentioned questions makes it a potential and feasible product.
Whether such a market exists for our product?
Operations Management Major Project 3
Hair Brushes are an indispensable commodity. Ours is a versatile product, and one of its only kind has an advantage over the existing market covered by ordinary hairbrushes, so there is no doubt of the existence of our product in such a market.
Whether our product is competitive?
As mentioned earlier, ours is unique and 2 in 1 product, which provides an advantage over the existing ones. We will compete on the basis of price, innovative features, service, and reliability.
Will it be profitable?
As our product is completely in line with customer's needs and is competitive against existing products of the same segment and also our pricing strategy can make it a profitable product.
Product design and process
The design of the product will be a lookalike of a normal hairbrush except for the pressure sensitive bristles. Considering customer requirements, product specification, cost, flexibility, and other constraints, we have decided to implement ?JOB SHOP? as for different age groups of society, product specification and design will vary and may require different steps and processing time, so we have decided to implement a Job shop process.
Further, to minimize the risk and reduce chances of failure and to have a possible chance of success, we have also performed ?SWOT ?analysis and taken customer feedback regarding the same.
STRENGTHS:? Uniqueness, Versatility, Innovative features
WEAKNESS: ?Lack of reputation
OPPORTUNITIES:? The emerging need for a product, New Technology
THREATS:? Entry of new competitors
This product feasibility study helped us in pursuing further product development and anticipated future industry and modifications in our product.
